NORWAY, county of Nord-Trøndelag, Åfjord
10.10.2002
ring of reduced vegetation

The strange formation in Åfjord, a ring and a central area of dead grass, was first discovered in 1999 by elk hunters,
but was not reported until 2002, when the Norwegian woman Ann-Mari Nergård discovered it and reported it to
UFO-Norway.
The oval ring measures 18,7 meter in diameter, and is one meter wide. In the centre there is a smaller circle, 2,30
metres in diameter.

UFO-Norway published photographs and a first repot in their magazine in 2002 (no. 3-4), but not until the 30th of
August 2003 did they examine the formation. They mesured it and collected soil samples for laboratory analysis.
These analysis confirmed what had been suspected:
The soil samples from the ring contained large amounts of fungus spurs and mould fungus. The control samples from
the soil outside the formation had much smaller concetrations of the same.

UFO-Norway could thus conclude that the Åfjord formation was a "witch ring" caused by circular growth of mushroom.

laboratory analysis here (only in Norwegian).
